cWith the help of BAD, the Canadian Diabetes Association is able to have three more children experience this life changing camp," said Brie Hnetka, manager of public programs and services at the Canadian Diabetes Association. "At camp, children living with diabetes are able to have the fun they would experience at any other summer camp, but also have the assurance that they will be healthy, learn to manage their diabetes, and give their parents peace of mind. We appreciate very much the BAD Cru's efforts and their commitment to helping us send children with Type 1 diabetes to camp."

Contexus Children's Camp is hosted by the Canadian Diabetes Association and takes place at Camp Easter Seal, located at Manitou Beach in Saskatchewan. This week-long camp provides up to 65 children who have diabetes with what is often their first experience away from home.
Campers learn independence and self-management in a medically supervised environment, while having fun with other kids who face similar challenges. Medical supervision is provided 24-7 by Saskatchewan's only pediatric endocrinologist and a team of dietitians, nurses and medical residents. Blood glucose monitoring is done in central locations and supervised by the diabetes team four times a day or more throughout the camp.

Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 4, the cause hits home for BAD Cru organizer Keith Irvine. "I always wondered why it happened to me?" said Irvine. "Everyone knows somebody with diabetes, and that's our biggest driver."
