Tila Tequila Shawn Merriman who played as a linebacker for San Diego Chargers, was arrested on Sunday morning. According to the police he was suspected of choking and restraining MTV reality show star Tila Tequila. However, these allegations were completely denied by Merriman's attorney. He justified that more than a dozen of people were present at his house in suburban San Diego at the time of incident.The disturbance began at around 3:45 am in the morning. This female voice from other side murmured that she had been choked by a male person.
Police arrived and identified herself as Tila Nguyen, aka Tila Tequila, and her attacker as Shawne Merriman.The statement that was recorded by the police is like this "Nguyen told deputies she had been choked and physically restrained by Merriman when she attempted to leave his residence,". No physical injury marks were seen on the body of Nguyen by the deputies however Tequila was taken to Palomar hospital and her condition was not immediately made available.Scott E. Leemon, an attorney for Tequila, answered in negative to comment publicly on this issue.Todd Macaluso, the attorney of Merriman, told reporters that she was extremely drunk and intoxicated. Merriman himself instead tried to make arrangements for her to leave the house. Macaluso said repeatedly that Mr. Merriman never assaulted her and never kept her against her will.
The attorney was confident that his client, Merriman will not be filed for any charge and the matter will be resolved soon. However he was released from jail late Sunday morning. Shawne Merriman had been suspended for four games for testing positive for steroids in 2006 besides the arrests. He was the 12th overall pick out of the University of Maryland in the 2005 draft, and had 39 1/2 sacks in his first three seasons. A remark from the team General Manager A.J. Smith came soon after this incident which narrated this incident disappointing on the team's part as name of Shawne Merriman one of the players was involved in this incident.Teammate Shaun Phillips told the reporters that Shawne was one of his good friends and when he wanted to give him details, he will give it.
