
ArubaThe Aruba team won medals in the gold, silver and bronze categories in different sports. Joshua Tromp won the gold in “Bowling Doubles”, together with Jhorzy Arias. Vanessa Bernabela took the gold in “Bowling Singles” and bronze in “Bowling Doubles.” Jhorzy Arias also won the silver in “Bowling Singles”. Darling Gomez brought home the gold in swimming (25 meters). In table tennis, the Aruban athletes won various medals. Deshaneira Mohamed won the silver in “Mixed Doubles” with Michael Wouters. Eldrick Kock brought his silver medal home in “Badminton Singles”.
Jeremiah Werleman took the bronze in the same category. In bocce, both Jeremy Didier and Dairylis Geerman took the silver. The Government of Aruba was represented in the VIP room at the Aruba airport by Minister of Economic Affairs, Social Affairs and Culture Michelle Hooyboer as well as Minister of Public Health and Sports Richard Visser. Both had heartfelt words of praise for the athletes that defended Aruba’s flag during international competitions, showing the whole world that we may be only a small island but our athletes can win in a big way! Digicel Aruba, the main sponsor for the Special Olympics for at least eight years, was so proud of the athletes, personally congratulating each one of them and wishing them great success in the future. The fact that the Aruba team brought home 20 medals shows that they are among the best in the world
