christy turlington

The British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is cracking down, passing on advertisements with Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington . Their belief is that the airbrushing has gone above and beyond natural, and is very misleading. According to the BBC News, a Member of Parliament, Jo Swinson, has been lobbying for some time against the results of these digitally altered images. These two ads from cosmetic companies claiming extraordinary results, caused Jo Swinsson to raise her red flag. Julia Roberts is in an ad for Lancôme Teint Miracle Foundation, looking almost cartoon-like because of the air-brushed effect. Christy Turlington is in an ad for Maybeline, with the same photo editing. The foundation named The Eraser, is another ad that is beyond flawless. Not one single wrinkle in sight. L’Oreal did admit to the retouching of Julia Roberts photos, but insists that she has beautiful glowing skin that is the perfect

representation for their product. The ASA called foul, asking for the "before" picture of Julia, which would be unretouched. Julia Roberts contract stipulates that no air brushed photos can be distributed. Turlingtons ad have the same effects. L'Oréal UK admitted that Turlington's image had been "digitally retouched to lighten the skin, clean up makeup, reduce dark shadows and shading around the eyes, smooth the lips and darken the eyebrows". The ASA said show us the untouched photos. L’Oreal refused and since it is a requirement of the ASA Turlingtons ad was pulled. This sends a great message to advertisers, stated Swinson.
